Learn more about how Litecoin works
Litecoin (LTC or Ł) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open source software project. Creation and transfer of coins is based on an open source cryptographic protocol and is not managed by any central authority. The coin was inspired by, and in technical details is nearly identical to, Bitcoin (BTC).

Litecoin is a superior choice for transactions due to the faster processing time of transactions resulting from technological advancements made during its creation shortly after Bitcoin. Litecoin also has four times more network capacity compared to Bitcoin which ultimately means lower transaction fees even in times of high network load (i.e a lot of people using the network to move Litecoin).

Bitcoin and Litecoin, together, provide sufficient transactional capacity to support all transaction types both now and in the long-term future. Litecoin is fast, cheap and just as secure as Bitcoin, it is often thought of as the Silver to the Gold standard, with Bitcoin being gold and Litecoin being silver.
